About Me
Hey! So before we work together you have to tell me a story about yourself, and we have to take the Harry Potter quiz and land in the same house. Otherwise this is just not gonna work. Know that I’m goofy, and silly, and love what I do. For me to create amazing work I have to connect with you, I think that’s super important.
My ideal client is a couple who’s stupid, crazy in love. Who cares about photography almost as much as I do. Nature-loving free spirits. Someone who on their wedding day cares more about the emotion and experience than the glitz and the glamour of it. Who’s wild enough to hike to the top of a mountain with me because the scene is breath-taking. Who doesn’t mind taking their shoes off and getting a little dirty. Who doesn’t care when it starts to rain. Who’s willing to dedicate the time necessary to create strong work. Who lets me get creative and experimental. Who trusts me and my process and lets me do my thing. Who sees what I do as art, and is willing to do what it takes to make something KILLER together.
My absolute favorites are small, intimate weddings and elopements in insane destinations (Iceland anyone?) Another favorite is cultural weddings. It’s a goal of mine to cover at least one wedding from each culture. Traveling the world and creating art specific to you, your love and your day is what keeps me creatively happy!
A little bit about me: I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have two fur-children, Penny & Elliott. We live in Chicago (Why? Because pizza.) Also, I have a scar from jumping off a giant waterfall in Costa Rica. It earned me the nickname “Cliff-Hanger.” There’s a painful story there. #worthit. I have a sarcastic sense of humor. I love to read. I’m originally French (yes I speak it.) And I’m a softie for animals. All of them. I am DYING to meet an elephant. If I ever do I think I’ll cry. Like, Kristen Bell-meeting-a-sloth cry.
The serious stuff: I have spent my entire life involved in the arts, and it is a huge part of me as a person and as a professional. As a child I painted, danced ballet and played piano. In college I was accepted into my school’s Fine Arts program and continued to grow artistically in various media, including painting, illustration, screen printing, and finally photography. After graduating, I worked with a local photo studio, but soon realized that in order to be true to myself and work in a way that made me not only happy but proud, I needed to venture out on my own.
I am a story teller and an art maker. My approach is to create honest, meaningful imagery around real people. I don’t need my subjects to be perfect and I don’t want their homes to be staged. I just want them to trust me enough to be themselves. I want to get to know YOU. That’s what makes my job interesting, the fact that each subject is new, and different, and tough. It’s a challenge to figure out who you really are. Behind the public version of yourself, beyond the camera-caused nervousness. I have to find you. So we both have to be honest & vulnerable with each other. That’s how we get there. It’s hard. Each time. But man, nothing is more fulfilling or brings me more joy than when I can gift you with a beautiful piece of yourself.
